Twenty Two and the lesson I learned
Whenever my boyfriend asked me about people I usually call everyone my friend. Calling someone an acquaintance required some thought and often I would have to correct myself. Tonight, or more technically last night, on my birthday I came to realize what the distinction between relationships such as friends and buddies really are.
A friend is someone you can connect with – over serious topics or discussions or to the most random words uttered together – and trust. What became apparent to me tonight was that buddies, although entertaining and fun to talk to, is never someone I turn to when I need someone I can rely on.
